Frequently Asked Questions

Why does a Hong Kong company need to do accounting and tax filing?

According to the Hong Kong Companies Ordinance and Inland Revenue Ordinance, Hong Kong companies must maintain complete financial records and submit annual audit reports and profits tax returns on time. Even if the company has no business operations, it still needs to file a 'nil return'. Failure to comply may result in penalties or even legal consequences.

What is the process for Hong Kong company accounting and tax filing?

1) Collect financial documents (bank statements, invoices, contracts, etc.); 2) Organize and classify accounts; 3) Prepare financial statements; 4) Auditor conducts audit; 5) Issue audit report; 6) Submit to Inland Revenue Department. The entire process usually takes 2-4 weeks, depending on the complexity of the company's business.

Does a newly established company need to do accounting and tax filing?

Yes. A new company will receive its first profits tax return within 18 months of incorporation and must complete the audit and submit it within 3 months. Even if the company has no operations, a nil return is required. It is recommended to establish a standardized financial system from the date of company establishment.

Do offshore accounts need to file taxes?

Hong Kong companies with offshore business income can apply for offshore tax exemption. However, normal accounting and audit must be completed first, then apply to the Inland Revenue Department for offshore tax exemption. Once approved, offshore income is not subject to profits tax. We can assist you in preparing offshore tax exemption application materials.

What documents are needed for accounting?

Mainly required: 1) Bank statements; 2) Business contracts; 3) Purchase and sales invoices; 4) Expense documents (rent, utilities, travel, etc.); 5) Payroll records; 6) Other financial related documents. We will provide a detailed document checklist and assist you in organizing and preparing.

Who is the auditor? Are they qualified?

Our partner auditors are all registered members of the Hong Kong Institute of Certified Public Accountants (HKICPA), holding Hong Kong practicing accountant licenses with statutory audit qualifications. Audit reports comply with Hong Kong Financial Reporting Standards and International Standards on Auditing, recognized by the Inland Revenue Department and banks.
